Welcome to OYAC. What an exciting time to have kids participating in athletics! As parents, we are finding more and more that our children’s activities dictate the majority of our schedules. And while moderation is a must, what better way to spend time with our kids, while also getting to know other parents and forming new friendships.
The Osage Youth Athletics Council is made up of parent volunteers who share the same goal of providing a safe, productive, and enjoyable experience in whichever intramural sport or sports your child decides to participate. The majority of the Council members have been involved in youth sports for many years as coaches, board members, and league directors. Based on past experiences, OYAC strives to improve the quality of our offerings season after season.
OYAC works in close cooperation with the School of the Osage. We tremendously appreciate the school’s willingness to grant us use of their facilities for our intramural sports. We could not function without their help. However, OYAC is self-sponsored and is not officially part of School of the Osage. We maintain all of our athletic programs through our registration fees. And, although the cost of uniforms, insurance, and equipment seems to increase year after year, we are continually striving to find ways to keep registration fees at a minimum.
Although OYAC is glad to assist in obtaining insurance, and scheduling gym space for competitive teams, OYAC is strictly an intramural organization. We want to give all of our kids an opportunity to play, and we encourage parents to allow their kids to experience a wide variety of activities so that they can better choose what they like to play before joining competitive-type teams.
We encourage all parents to get involved. Your help is needed and appreciated. As a coach, you will more than likely find that you have as much fun, if not more fun, than the kids on your team. Don’t worry if you don’t know everything there is to know about whatever sport you are considering. The most important thing is just being there for the kids. They grow up quickly, so the time is now!
